Ich finde das schwierig zu beantworten, wir haben auf der einen Seite die Inkarnationen mit den Muttermalen, aber auch die Form der Geschichte in der Geschichte, womit eigentlich nur die 6. Geschichte und die von Sonmi real sind.


Ich bin jetzt durch mit dem 2. Teil von Sonmi (Vorsicht, nicht vorher lesen!):

Leider war die Auflösung um das Elysium, wenn man den Film gesehen hatte, keine Überraschung mehr. Ich glaube aber auch, selbst wenn man den Film nicht kennt, deutet schon der Anfang der Geschichte auf kein gutes Ende für die Duplikanten.

Das aber alles eine Inszenierung der Konzernokratie war, hatte ich so nicht mehr im Kopf. Zum Abschluss darf Sonmy den angefangenen Film um Cavendish zu Ende sehen.

Ich habe jetzt auch die Cavendish-Geschichte beendet:

Nun wird auch klar, dass der Film auf "realen" Geschehnissen beruht, das wird wohl mit den anderen Geschichten nicht anders sein.


Was uns der Autor mit dem gesamten Roman sagen möchte, ist mir noch nicht so ganz klar, vielleicht wird das noch in den restlichen drei Geschichten deutlicher. Bis jetzt habe ich nur so eine wage Vorstellung.

Ich bin mit Sonmi Teil eins fast fertig, das Buch gefällt mir immer besser, auch wenn ich absolut keine Ahnung habe worauf der Autor überhaupt hinaus will.

Sehe ich es richtig das die Protagonisten sozusagen reinkarnieren und immer an diesem kometenförmigen Muttermal zu erkennen sing?

Ich bin inzwischen mit Teil 2 von The Ghastly Ordeal of Timothy Cavendish fertig und revidiere meine Meinung zu ihm.

Er hat ein Muttermal, also muss er in die Reihe der Reinkarnationen gehören. Klar - die Hauptfigur, die nicht in diese Reihe gehört, ist natürlich Zachry, bei dem ich mich vom Film habe irreführen lassen.


Ich weiß nicht, ob der Autor uns mit dem Buch irgendwas "sagen" will, es ist mir auch egal. Ich bin in diesem Fall ausnahmsweise geneigt, es als "Gesamtkunstwerk" zu sehen. Eine Geschichte muss keine Moral haben, und diese hat vielleicht keine. Oder doch?

Ich glaube fast, Meronym ist die letzte Inkarnation, sie hat ein Stadium erreicht, wo sie vielleicht nicht mehr viel "lernen" kann vom Leben. Nur meine Meinung natürlich.

Ich glaube die Geschichten kreisen immer wieder um den Sinn des Lebens, alle Figuren haben für sich eine Aufgabe gefunden, die sie antreibt ihr Leben für diese Aufgabe zu riskieren, bzw. ihr Leben zu verlieren, wenn sie diese Aufgabe erfüllt haben. Dabei sind immer Freiheit und Wahrheit von größter Bedeutung. "Nebenbei" geht es auch um die Entwicklung der Menschheit, bzw. um die Frage, wird die Antriebsfeder der menschlichen Entwicklung auch zu ihrem Ende führen. Ihr werdet es noch lesen...

Das also meine wage Interpretation.

Ich bin jetzt bei der letzten Geschichte.

Hänge immer noch hinter euch her, bin etwa in der Mitte von "Sloosha’s Crossin’..." da musste ich dann doch mal von englisch auf deutsch wechseln weil ich fast nichts verstanden habe Ist aber auf D auch nicht viel besser... Die Story finde ich super interessant und gut geschrieben, nur der Sprachstil

Wir sollten öfter mal ein "Extra" machen, unsere beiden bisherigen haben mir beide besser gefallen als das "offizielle" Buchclub-Buch

Wir hatten sowieso geplant, jetzt immer in den Pausen vom offiziellen Buchclub etwas gemeinsam zu lesen. Bei Marrella und mir passen halt die Interessen so gut zusammen, da bietet sich das an. Natürlich sind dazu dann auch alle anderen eingeladen, entweder mitzulesen oder eigene Extras zu machen.

Ich fand das sprachliche Experiment in Teil 6 auch sehr interessant, und zum Glück hatte ich keine Verständnisprobleme. Bei den Interviews von Sonmi wurden ja auch schon hin und wieder Wörter anders geschrieben, als man es gewöhnt ist.

Da Sprachen sich normalerweise sehr schnell (weiter)entwickeln, musste Mitchell hier aber wohl einen Kompromiss eingehen. Nach mehreren hundert Jahren (oder noch länger?) hätte Zachry vermutlich ein für uns nur noch sehr schwer verständliches Englisch gesprochen. Da vieles phonetisch transkribiert war, hat man wohl einen Vorteil, wenn man das Buch liest statt hört. Ich überlege aber inzwischen ernsthaft, ob ich mir das Hörbuch nicht auch noch hole.

Hm tja, im Original würde ich dir zustimmen was die weiterentwicklung der Sprache angeht, da hat mir manchmal das laut vorsprechen geholfen, war mir aber insgesamt zu anstrengend. Der übersetzer hat es sich da finde ich sehr leicht gemacht, diesen Stil habe ich schon öfter mal gelesen, hören tut man das in der Ecke Dortmund-Bochum-Gelsenkirchen.

Bin jetzt beim zweiten Teil der "Briefe" und es gefällt mir immer noch sehr gut. Die einzelnen Teile sind schön verknüpft und sauber abgerundet, besonders Spass macht mir die Suche nach Verweisen zwischen den einzelnen Teilen bzw. auf die ganze Geschichte.

ZUm Beispiel das Frobisher sein Werk genauso anlegt wie die Romanstruktur aufgebaut ist


Ausserdem finde ich es schon interessant wie sich der Zivilisationsstand der "Wilden" aus den Pazifiktagebüchern dem der Ha-Whyanern aus "Sloosha’s Crossin’" ähnelt (Maori-Koona / Moriori-Talbewohner), da hätte ich es eigentlich elegant gefunden den Zeitstrang an der selben Stelle zu beenden wie er angefangen hat, das hätte den Kreis erzählerisch abgeschlossen

Was ich mich frage ist ob das Buch von vornherein so geplant war oder ob es sich um eine Handvoll Kurzgeschichten handelte die zwar für sich alleine betrachtet gar nicht schlecht sind aber doch erst durch die besondere Art der Konstruktion zu etwas Besonderem werden.

Interessant, ich habe ja nur die deutsche Übersetzung gelesen.

Ich denke schon, dass das so geplant war. Es ist auch nicht Mitchells einziges Buch in dieser ungewöhnlichen Form, wenn du dir den Wiki-Artikel nochmal anschaust.

Außerdem hat für mich das Buch dann doch zum Abschluss eine klare Botschaft und die Geschichten sind alle in diese Richtung geschrieben.

Ich habe inzwischen ein paar Interviews mit Mitchell gelesen. Er hat die Geschichten zwar "einzeln" geschrieben, aber nicht als Kurzgeschichten im eigentlichen Sinn. Die Struktur des Romans hat dann zusammengefügt, als alles fertig war. Das hätte ich wohl auch so gemacht - auch ein Autor ist nur ein Mensch. Zwischen Teil 1 und 2 von Adam Ewings Tagebuch zum Beispiel wäre zu viel Zeit vergangen und er hätte sich erst wieder hineindenken müssen. In der Mitte abbrechen hemmt den Schreibfluss. Aber er dürfte wohl eine Idee gehabt haben, wie das Ganze sich dann zusammenfügt.

Ich bin jetzt beim letzten Teil angelangt.

Äh ja, hab ich ganz vergessen zu schreiben

Grossartiges Buch, hatte viel Spass daran, auch wenn mir ein richtiges Ende irgendwie fehlt. Die Stories sind zwar alle in sich abgeschlossen, aber dem Gesamtkonzept fehlt leider ein "Ende" im klassischen Sinn, auch wenn man sich vorstellen kann das die zivilisierte Menschheit nach dem Ende von "Sloosha's Crossin'..." keine allzu grosse Zukunft mehr hat.

So hoch würde ich persönlich nicht greifen, zwar haben Luisa, Meronym und besoders Sonmi durchaus altruistischen Ziele, die männlichen Charaktere fand ich aber durch die Bank schwach, primär egoistisch geprägt und durch die Bank unsympathisch, "Freiheit und Wahrheit" sind eher Abfallprodukte des Kreisens um sich selbst
