Adding a Cover versus Replacing a cover
I know about modify epub and the polish feature all im curious about is the proper way to do both: Replace and add covers
For example I have a few epubs that have no cover so calibre has assigned its title page as the cover. How do i add the cover on top of that. Secondly if a book currently has a cover and its rubbish how can i replace it correctly and not just add a cover on top of it. Thanks for any help. |

Highlight the book -> Click on "Edit Metadata" -> in the "Change Cover" section, you can either "Download cover" from various sources or "Browse" to where you have a cover jpg/png/gif on your system.
At that point you will either need to an epub->epub converstion or use the "Modify ePub" plugin or use "Polish Books" to actually get in the books metadata. |

I thank you for the time and effort to help but what im trying to understand is how can one simply ADD a cover to some books and REPLACE a cover for others. Similar yes, but i have to believe the procedure is slightly different as their results are different.

You can also drag/drop the image you want as the cover to the Book Details panel. That will replace any existing cover.jpg, or create one if there isn't. Then use Polish to put it in the EPUB or AZW3, or Modify -
There's also a Generate Cover Plugin, that's also useful. BR |

Whether a cover is added or replaced depends on whether there is already something marked as a cover. If there is then it is replaced and if not it is added.
There is special logic for the case where the first image is a cover image but not marked as such. In that case Calibre needs to be told to remove the first image when adding/replacing the cover. |
