Kindle 4 - sleep or turn off

Sorry, this is probably a silly question.
When I press the turn off button of my Kindle 4 I expect the screen to go blank. Instead I get a screensaver image. I presume this is stand-by mode because if I press the same button again to turn it on I get the home screen very fast. So, is there a way to completely turn off my Kindle?

Don't forget that the screen image doesn't take any power. Even if the Kindle was completely turned off, it could leave an image on the screen. (Indeed, it ships with such an image.)

It is possible to completely turn of the Kindle, but there's not much point in doing so unless you're going to leave it unused for more than a couple of weeks.

For the Kindle Keyboard, sliding and holding the power switch for 4 seconds turns the kindle off. It's probably the same for the kindle 4.

(And welcome back — I hope you like your new Kindle!)

Oh - apparently 7 seconds for the Kindle 4.

Oooohh... isn't that clever. That explains the "Battery life is equally long in sleep mode or turned off."

I guess this is to make airlines happy.

So this means it's not possible to turn it off at all?

That's right; there's no way to turn a Kindle off. You can reboot it (by holding the power switch in for about 15s) but not turn it off.

I thought I'd chime in here because in an odd twist I just posted an article about this ten minutes ago: Simple Trick to Get Kindle 4 to Not Display Screensaver Ads

Using the seven second power off is a good way to bypass the screensaver ads completely if you don't like them.

It's not a "power off"; it's just a sleep mode, as has been said repeatedly.

That is good to know. Saves cutting the WiFi, 3G off to save power.
Unless they automatically cut off when the screen saver come on?

Do you know?

frahse, did you read to the end of the thread at all before posting!?! see HarryT's post, Which is why, if you leave Wi-Fi switched on, it will continue to drain the battery.
