K5 FW 5.x ScreenSavers Hack - Page 156

I agree with you, it was unfair regarding the hard work to code.
It was too impulsive, now I regret it.
I'm not a hardcore geek and spending a lot of time and taking the risk to brick my Kindle just for a cover was not a good deal.
I prefer reading than tweaking computers.

I was in the 5.7.3 and downgraded to the 5.4.3.2.
After the v5.4 jailbreak (success) it was impossible to launch KUAL.2.7
So I decided to upgrade to the 5.8.7 to give up the jailbreak
Miracle, after this upgrade I was able to launch KUAL, so I installed mrinstaller 1.6N and ScreenSaver 0.24.

Now, I have the message "SW failed to process cover" at the bottom of the screen while reading.
I did some research and the advices were to use the last version.
May be it's due to the very last FW 5.8.7.
If you have some advices I'll be happy to put into practice.

Additional information, I'm using PDF koreader and it work.

The latest (most recent) version of the add-ins, not of the firmware.

I read Python was mandatory for the cover display, so in case of, I installed python : Update_python_0.14.N_k2_install.bin

I updated the screenSaver from 0.24N to 0.47N
The ScreenSaver said it was OK like before.

I selected the cover mode and restarted the framework.
And again the message : "SW Failed to process cover"

My Kindle is a Intl model : PW2IL, and the screen saver .bin is named :
"Update_ss_0.47.N_k2_dx_k3_install.bin"
May be I need the k2i one ?

In the link you gave me the jailbrake is
kindle-jailbreak-0.13.N

And I used the "kindle-5.4-jailbreak"
Is my jailbrake bad ?
However the pdf reader work fine.

Or it is because of my too recent 2_5.8.7 version ?

Do you see: "PW2" in the filename of the file you used?
The K2 was the second model Kindle ever produced, introduced in February 2009, I don't think you have that one.

Use the proper file, you will have much better luck.
And get all of the packages from the link I gave you above.

Initially I was in this version : update_kindle_paperwhite_v2_5.7.3.bin

I downgraded to this version : update_PW2_5.4.3.2_initial.bin
I jailbreaked with : kindle-5.4-jailbreak
I installed : KUAL-KDK-2.0.azw2
I installed : kual-mrinstaller-1.6.N
The Screen Saver : Update_linkss_0.24.N_install_pw2_kt2_kv_pw3_koa_kt 3.bin

KUAL refused to run
So I upgraded to : update_kindle_paperwhite_v2_5.8.7.bin
After that, KUAL was up and running.
But the screen saver was in this state : "SW Failed to process cover"

I installed : Update_python_0.14.N_k2_install.bin
And Update_ss_0.47.N_k2_dx_k3_install.bin

The Screen Saver is again in the "SW Failed to process cover" state.

Is there something wrong in this workflow ?

You DO NOT have a K2 device, stop using that file.

With the advice to use the last version.
I didnt saw the thread was from 2013 and I confused between Kindle 2 and Kindle Paper White 2.

So initialy I was using all the good packages.
And it didn't work.

I think the Python K2 version didn't install and I re install the "Update_linkss_0.24.N_install_pw2"

I used this clear install advices : "http://www.ereader-palace.com/4-must-have-plugins-to-install-after-jailbreaking-kindle/"

So the question remains, what is wrong ?
The error under KUAL is :

SW failed to process cover
Entries 1 - 5 of 5 v2.7 (20160721,a) PW2

What is in the ss log files?

I do not use the ss add-in myself, so I can't be of much help.
Your best bet would be to use the troubleshooting guide NiLuJe wrote.

Now the error has disappeared but it doesn't work.
I bet SS 0.24 and my FW are incompatible.

Success

Installed KUAL
Again I was unable to lauch KUAL

Upgrade to 5.7.3 (and not the 5.8.7)
Now I'm able to launch KUAL

SS 0.24
.... and ..... now it works.
So, my opinion is SS is not compatible with the very last 5.8.7
I'll stuck on this version and I will read the last Connelly

Now I would like to find a hack to read the summary of books like with my old Kobbo.
But may by the summary is not in a mobi file ?
Do you know ?

At which point you are running **FACTORY** firmware.
Nothing that we post is tested to run on **FACTORY** firmware.

i'm using SS with latest 5.8.7 firmware. Works fine.

I dont know why but now when I copy the 5.8.7 in the root of my Kindle, the file disapear.
Why ? How to upgrade to the 5.8.7 ?
