FBReader nach Kindle portiert! (EPUB und FB2 lesbar!)

Da sagt man, sie haben die letzte Version von FBReader (.12.10) portiert.

Die Software ist noch in Alpha-Status, aber wenn man sich tapfer fühlt mag es klappen.

Das einzige, was mich daran stört, ist der Jailbreak. Zum einen aus Garantiegründen, zum anderen, weil das nächste offizielle Update dem Projekt wieder einen Riegel vorschieben kann.

Probieren würde ich schon gern, weil Garantie ist 1 Jahr. Und die gilt so weit ich gelesen habe nur wenn man sein Gerät registriert.

Was ich aber auch gelesen habe, dass es für den Kindle DX eine spezielle Version sein muss. Kann mich da mal jemand aufklären? Oder ist alles noch so wie hier beschrieben?

Auch gelesen habe ich, dass man es ganz einfach wieder runter bekommt, in dem man einfach die entsprechenden Ordner löscht.

nen User hat in meinem Thread behauptet Duokan liesse sich angeblich momentan nicht entfernen, was aber wg der Dualbootfähigkeit nicht stören würde (orig. und Duokan FW sind wohl ladbar)

Hab das allerdings nicht überprüft da ich mit Duokan "noch" nicht beschäftigt habe.

Scherzkeks. Wenn du ein Jailbreak anwendest und das Gerät brickst, wirst du auf keine Kulanz von Amazon hoffen dürfen, egal ob du das Gerät vorher registriert hast oder nicht.

Sowohl Duokan wie FBReader sind auf eigene Gefahr.

Und wenn ich das Gerät gar nicht bei Amazon gekauft habe, sondern eben nur in den USA bei einem Händler.
Dann habe ich auch schon schlechte Karten
Das wusste ich aber vor dem Kauf.
Deswegen habe ich da mit dem ausprobieren auch nicht so die Probleme mit.
Ich suche nur noch "Gründe" für mich um das zu riskieren,
deswegen auch die Frage wegen epub vs. mobi - DRM außen vor.

Ich habe jetzt den FBreader auf dem Kindle und bin positiv überrascht, wie ausgereift der schon ist. Bisher habe ich keine Fehler finden können, weder bei Absatz- noch bei Textformatierungen. Die Silbentrennung läßt sich nicht nach Ländern einstellen, paßt aber gut zur deutschen Sprache, eine ähnliche Fehlerquote wie beim FBReader180.

Die Bedienung ist umständlich, man kann nur seiten- und kapitelweise blättern, nach Wörtern suchen, aber keine Seitenzahlen anspringen. Das Verändern von Schriftgrößen, Seitenrändern und so weiter ist etwas mühsam, das Errichten einer eigenen Bibliothek ebenfalls.

Ich nutze die Cambria, die leider nicht ganz so schwarz und satt aussieht wie die PMN Caecilia 75 vom Kindle. Diese wirkt auch "luftiger", nicht nur durch die vielen Löcher zwischen den Wörtern durch die fehlende Silbentrennung. Aber 56 Euro werde ich für diese Schrift jetzt erst mal nicht investieren, zumal ich nicht weiß, ob ich beim FBReader bleibe. Man kann mit einem Tastendruck vom Kindlereader zum FBReader wechseln.

@ Passepartout

Vorteile des FBReaders sehe ich fast ausschließlich für kleine Displays, durch die Silbentrennung und freie Fontauswahl paßt viel mehr auf die Seite. Das Konvertieren von ePub zu mobi ist ja nicht der Rede wert.

Hab jetzt nochmal die aktuelle Duokan (7800) auf meinem KDXG installiert, und die funktioniert bisher ohne Probleme.

Duokan hat den Vorteil Dual-Boot zu haben, und eine De-Installation ist auch einfach möglich. Die einzige Hürde besteht darin dass man am Anfang durch die chinesischen Setup-Menüs zur Einstellung der Sprache kommen muss. Der Punkt versteckt sich bei jedem Kindle woanders ist aber in einigen Threads/Webseiten gut beschrieben.

Was meinst Du mit Dual-Boot? Daß beide Betriebsarten parallel laufen?

Deinstallieren kann man beim FBReader für den Kindle auch angeblich alles. Es gibt für den Jailbreak und den Launchpad Deinstallationsprogramme. Habe ich aber noch nicht probiert.

Welche Vorteile hat denn Duokan?

Du kannst beim Einschalten aussuchen, welches du nutzen möchtest. Wenn du zum klassischen Kindle zurück möchtest denke ich muss das Gerät einmal aus- und dann wieder angestellt werden.
Obwohl natürlich eine switch-Option im laufenden Modus klasse wäre. Da bin ich aber bescheiden.

Das kann der FBReader. Alt-Shift und Du bist beim Kindle, gleicher Befehl und Du bist zurück.

Du kannst mit dem FBReader alle bekannten Formate lesen. Also von daher verstehe ich nicht, warum man sich mit chinesisch und fehlenden Umlauten plagen muß. Und man hat mit dem FBReader eine gute Silbentrennung.
