Maximum File size for epub

Hi,

I've created with ePub with 300MB. It opens properly in ADE and tried converting it to Mobi using mobigen and it worked fine. Again, i've tried coverting it to PRC using Mobicreator, it worked here as well.

But, if i open the same file in Kindle previewer it shows error as 'maximum file size supported is 600MB, resize the package and submit', whereas my filesize is only 300 MB. I understand Kindle previewer uses Kindlegen for converting epub to Mobi.

Is there any size limitation for ePub in Kindle device? How to go about these? Is it advicable to split the book?

thanks,
Bhuvana

It is advisable to break the book into chapters and sub-chapters. It is also advisable to reduce graphics to the smallest file size possible while retaining a good look on mobile devices. I recommend 72 dpi, <200 kb, jpegs.

300MB? Are you sure? That is...large. Even comics which contain only out of pictures are not that large...

In general, the MOBI format (and reader) does not take a global view of the ebook and so it should not matter much how big it is. It is possible that the limit is just in the previewer, and in the Kindle Store.

Note that in some cases Amazon charges the author or publisher $0.10 per MB for whispernet download rights, so that would be $30 per sale in your case. This should not matter if all you want to do is side-load the MOBI onto a Kindle.
