OpenInkpot 0.1

We are pleased to announce that we have finally reached the point where we can unveil a working OpenInkpot version for non-developer users! While it is rough at corners and still needs polishing, it is quite usable. For more details, please visit our blog post: http://blog.openinkpot.org/2008/10/o...-released.html .

Please do feel free to leave comments on our blog, here in this forum thread, or in our IRC channel - #openinkpot on OFTC.

Thanks!

The OpenInkpot Team.

How long does it take to refresh the screen? Can you match the original firmware?

if the screen only has a refresh rate of .8 fps, you probably won't be able to do lots better...or the battery life suffers equally from it (doubling fps could half battery life)

That is great news. This is a great project.

Any idea how long until support for other devices will be released, namely the Sony and Kindle brands? What about the Newtronics OEM brands?

I noticed that PalmDoc is not listed as a supported format but it should work if you recognize the type. It is a subset of products you do list as supported.

It is explicitly supported by FBReader, so it should be on the list.

Painless install (live) and really liking it.

When choosing an ebook reader I made a conscious decision to go with the Hanlin/BeBook etc in part because it seemed most likely to be supported by OI at an early stage; but I'm surprised at just how quickly things have moved.

For those who don't care for DRM and closed formats, this device with OI has some great capabilities.

To get the most out of this, though, it is vital to read the User Guide and try out the new features; otherwise you'll not be aware of what this device is now capable of.

Many thanks to the OI team.

Btw, for those addicted to DRM(let it burn in hell), we are planning to support encrypted and protected mobi files in further releases.

We have to thank the OI team, and let them breath after the hard work, but in the wish list for the next release, I would put MP3 support (better than the one in Jinke´s firmware).

Can we expect support for the Cybook in some weeks, or is there any serious problem preventing it?

And I'm down to just ONE of my Cybook-compatible devices or I'd send him one. If anyone has an older Cybook (64mb model) they'd be willing to lend to him...

Jekhor did get the Sony 505, so he will probably hack on it soon.

About Kindle and Netronix - only if anyone donates devices to the project. I think it is possible to set up an option to donate via PayPal on site, is it worth it?
