Paperwhite 2 > Kobo Glo > Paperwhite 1
Techwise, like this I believe. But there is no drastic difference between them apart from ePub and font management. |

Depends on the individual. I find that eInk front lights give me a headache, especially if I use them in total darkness. The light on my Aura HD stays off almost 100% of the time when I use it (which isn't often anymore).

The Kindle has collections management that is just as good as Kobo, if you use the Kindle Collections plugin, together with Collections Manager kindlet for touch models. You do have to spend more time on it - instead of calibre just updating a db, the Kindle Keyboard must be restarted to register changes, and touch models need to be manually imported through the kindlet. But on the other hand, the Kindle supports nested collections! (broken in the later PW firmwares, but you can downgrade.) |

What people here call the PW2 is the current Paperwhite - the 2013 model - compared to the original 2012 Paperwhite, which we call the PW1.

I think you should buy the Kobo Glo. I highly recommend it. I prefer it over the Kindle Paperwhite.

And to complicate things further, t seems that Aussie sellers are calling the PW2 the "Next Gen". I think. It's hard to tell. The Target page also claims it has a "built-in backlight", so I guess all bets are off.

Amazon themselves never use version numbers. The PW2 is called, on Amazon UK, the "All-New Kindle Paperwhite" .

In that case, it would appear that I'm attempting to decide between the PW2 and the Kobo Glo... But they display as having very similar prices on my computer.

Yes, it basically boils down to whether you prefer Amazon or Kobo's ecosystems. Personally I prefer Amazon: they have (IMHO) a better bookstore, and much better customer service. Both are good readers.

Where are you looking? Dick Smith is the major Kindle dealer in Aus, and they've got the Paperwhite listed at $179 ($249 for 3G, but I'm guessing you're not going there). Officeworks has the Kobo Glo at $129 and Aura HD at $199, and the six inch Aura is ... hmmm, mostly unavailable? About to be updated, perhaps? But it was in the $160s.

Why are you not considering the six inch Kobo Aura?
The competition is between the Glo vs. KPW1, and Aura vs. KPW2, as far as I know. |

I didn't know that it existed until I began receiving replies about it in this thread. I didn't even know that there were two Kindle Paperwhites.
