Sort within collection on PRS-300

I couldn't find an answer in the forums, so am posing this question now. Is it possible to sort items by date with a collection on the Sony PRS-300? I use my Reader to read PDF documents for work, and it would be VERY useful to be able to view the documents in date order.

I am not a programming whiz, so if this can be done, I would greatly appreciate guidance on how to do this.

Thanks!

You can't actually do any sub-sorting within Collections on the PRS-300, (which is a bit of shame), but you can sometimes 'cheat' the Collection names to achieve what you want. You could use a 2-digit numeric prefix for your collections and this will determine the order, for example:

00 : Jan-Mar 2010
01 : Apr-Jun 2010
02 : Jul-Aug 2010
03 : Sep-Dec 2010

It's a bit of manual carry-on but can be quite effective. It can also be used to group 10-items at a time on each page of the Collections.

Look at the tweak (preferences -> advanced -> tweaks) sony_collection_sorting_rules. It lets you specify the metadata field used to sort any given collection. Assuming that the date you want sorted by is in some metadata field, you should be able to accomplish what you want.

The thread https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...ection+sorting has a fairly long discussion about this tweak and other related issues.

This suggests that each collection could have its own sorting method. Is this correct?

Yes. Calibre will order the collection by sorting using the value in the specified field. Given that the field can be a composite custom column, that means they can be sorted more-or-less arbitrarily.

Note that some sony devices permit collections to be sorted in several ways. On these devices, calibre's order is the 'added order'.
