Hello from the Smoky Mountains!
Hello! I was lucky enough to find this forum, as I was researching the different E-readers. I'm the type who researches everything to death for a major purchase, over $50.
I finally settled on the Aluratek Libre, Kmart had it on sale for $99. I was leaning towards the Nook, but the Libre had the right price, features and wifi wasn't necessary. I debated on waiting until November to see if the prices would drop. But seeing as it was supported by Kobo, Borders and Books A Million, temptation won and I purchased the Libre as a beginner E-reader. So far I love it! Spartan ... just the way I like it. Now I just need to read some reviews, download some e-books, learn how to upload them on the Libre and I'm guessing update the software for the Libre. |

Thanks for the warm welcome! I've been scouring the forums for a few days, I have to admit this is the BEST forum for E-reader info and reviews. Everyone is really nice and there is a TON of info I've yet to scratch the surface of. All day when I'm at work I'm wondering what's being posted and looking to find some more free ebooks.
I've been playing with the Libre when I'm not working. So far so good, I've transfered the free books off the Libre and onto my computer. Wow! 80 megs of free books. My Libre didn't come with a SD card in it's particular package, so I'll purchase one tomorrow. I need an SD card to update the firmware to the latest version. Boot up is a little slow and some navigation is a little slow. But nothing bad, maybe like 2-3 seconds if that long. I haven't really timed it, and I'm in no rush when I'm reading. Access to the books stored on the Libre are quick and instantaneous. Page turns are immediate, as far as my eyes can see. I'm curious to see if books stored on the SD card will have slower access time? I am happy to confirm that it can play audio books. Now another format to look for ... *sigh* yet another addiction .... |

Good to have your company, Gino. Have you yet tried the excellent (free or donate-if-you-like) Calibre Library software? Many of us here swear by it. It certainly beats anything I've used to far. Developed by one of our MobileRead friends, Kovid Goyal. You'll find a Calibre-dedicated forum here in which Kovid is very active and as generous with advice as he is with his software. Best wishes. Neil
