Not an author I'm familiar with. I'll have to take a look at his work.

Sad news indeed. It has been many years since I read a handful of his books but did enjoyed them (particularly his Potato Factory/Tommo & Hawk/Solomon's Song trilogy). Definitely on the re-read list along with his others I haven't as yet. A very popular author particularly in Aus/NZ.

An Australian writer, but I haven't read anything by him.
I'll have to remedy that situation soon. Don |

Greatly enjoyed many of his works. I started reading his books with the Australia Trilogy. Personal favourite was Smoky Joe's Cafe.

Click the link in the post you've quoted. It tells you there. A South African author living in Australia.

I guess his most famous work internationally would have been The Power of One because it was made into a movie.
Strangely enough, I've never seen the movie. Nor have I read a Bryce Courtenay novel (shame on me), but down here in Australia you can't enter a book store without tripping over several Bryce Courtenay books. He's a bit of an icon here. |

I was very impressed by that movie. May he rest in peace.

Bryce Courtenay's books are well worth reading. They're difficult to find in the US, but the audio versions seem to be more readily available, usually read by Humphrey Bower - an excellent narrator. The books aren't always pleasant, but they're well worth reading - or listening to as an audiobook.
