505 vs 600 side by side pics?
My 2yr old 505 has developed an annoying vertical white line down the middle of the page most noticeable when turning pages. Since I bought it from the US (I'm in the UK) I suspect it won't be cost effective to return it for repair/refurb.
So I have been trying to decide whether to buy another 505 (cheaper now), or replace it with a 300 or 600. I love the 505, the screen is just right, but another one might suffer the same problem a year or two further down the line. The 300 has a similar contrast from what I read on these forums, so I feel that is the way I would go - except the smaller screen = more page turning = less time between battery recharging? The 600 has the same size screen, but I am concerned I may not get on with the reduced contrast (my eyesight is not too good). I tried to find comparison photos of actual text being displayed on the 600 vs 505 to see whether the difference in contrast would be a problem for me - but so far nothing useful found. So I wondered whether anyone has posted any side by side pics of the 505 & the 600 readers showing the comparative contrast/legibility of text? Thanks NigelS |

the 300 is amazing when it comes to the battery I still have yet to have to hook mine up to charge after approx 3 weeks. it has the best battery life out of any reader I have seen.

I can post a photo, but the problem is: the question of the PRS-600's glare is something quite personal, and a photo, depending on the light, can be biased on that problem. I am nearsighted and use most of the time my glasses, but they have an antireflective coating and it works fine for me when I have them on. The contrast is imho just slightly less evident, but that again depends on the light you're using it with.

I found it annoying that the 600 was reflecting back the camera and the person taking the video, you could see the reflection , like a mirror. The 600 seems more faded out or washed out compared to 505. The Glare issue is not addressed because a Bright light was not in the room, but I have seen other videos where it is very Glaring when a Bright light is overhead! It is a shame because I like the features on the 600 and I guess it is hard for sony to keep the same screen clarity of the 505 and add the touch screen layer. |

They could use a different touch screen technology. There's plenty to choose.

I saw an interview on youtube talking about another e-ink type of tech and they mentioned that the touch screens implemented in most of the current devices are very very cheap when there is plenty of better techs that could be used but at a slightly higher price.
Just to clarify I'm talking about the 'touch screens'. Not the actual devices. |
