300k preflight file error

Hi All,

I'm producing a book with notes throughout and thought life would be easier to have the whole book in one file and the notes in another. For the chapters used "H" headings (for the TOC) with page break before.

The book passed both Sigil and ePubChecker validation, but when it came to PreFlight I get:

ERROR: C:\EBOOK TESTS\Walking to America.epub/OEBPS/Text/maintext.xhtml: file is over 300k in size.

I checked online and best practices "suggest" keeping the file size limit below 300k.

Does anyone have any views on this or should I just ignore this PreFlight "error".

Thanks in advance,

John.

Some devices (older Sonys?) might choke on such an ePub, refuse to open it or even crash.

If that's an acceptable risk for you, you can ignore the error, as the ePub is valid anyway. But if you want to make sure the book works as good as possible in all devices, you better split the file.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I thought this might be the case. There is a Part Title about halfway through the book, and will be a convenient split.

Cheers,

John.
