A question for iLiad owners
What bluetooth USB adaptor do you have?
I ask because I have a D-Link BT-120 running on my iLiad and I'm working to get the rest of the stack up. So please let me know which units needs to be supported next. My intention is to release keyboard, GPS and cellular access for the iLiad via loadable kernel modules. The first working cellphone will be a Samsung ZX-20 so I can get HSDPA to my iLiad. You can see my profile at the left to see which phone follows that one. The first supported GPS will be a Holux 236 unit. And I'm partial to Stowaway keyboards. I've accelerated work on this because Sylpheed Claws is so awesome it deserves a proper keyboard. All of this would have been released by now if iRex had released the sources to the kernel. |

I would like to buy Bluetooth keyboard and adapter if you get it working, but wonder how much it would cost?
Could you turn the screen landscape for such situations (reading emails, web browsing)? Are we able now to browse the web? Do you have any web browsers ported or we can just use the built in minimo? Thanks for your efforts! |

The screen can be rotated and I'm in the process of auto-magically doing/un-doing this for Sylpheed-Claws.
I'm very well aware of how unstable minimo is on the iLiad from reading my TheDailyIlidian RSS feeds. Its slow, it crashes often and frankly iRex didn't exactly do a wonderful job of porting its UI. Sylpheed-Claws has a plugin with dillo (as well as the RSS feeder I'm also porting) so I've put some effort into that. From the quality of Sylpheed-Claws I'm guessing dillo must be good stuff or they wouldn't tarnish their code by plugging into it. Keyboard of choice: http://astore.amazon.com/jkontherun-...875666-4705742 I'm upgrading my Dongle so I can do keyboard, GPS and ZX-20 all at the same time: http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Bluetoo...&s=electronics |

Question via email:
Yes, the iLiad could support A2DP and one of those speaker phone devices. This would enable listening to MP3's, taking voice notes and recording meetings. Yes, there is a Microsoft Journal work alike written in Perl that uses Gnome. Yes I've been poking it with a sharp stick. Yes it might be possible to extend it to do synchronized voice/hand notes like Microsoft One Note. No I have no idea why iRex hasn't just gone ahead and released bluetooth support for the iLiad. Like other things, it would be very simple for them to do it. Example speaker phone device: http://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Hand...875666-4705742 Example A2DP headphones: http://www.amazon.com/BlueAnt-X5-Ste...875666-4705742 |

Yes, software standpoint.
All they need do is compile the bluetooth kernel loadable modules and release them. Or if they want deniability: tar ball their kernel directory, upload it to http://rapidshare.de and email me the link. |

Right, which was the point of this thread. What bluetooth dongles do most iLiad owner's seem to have lying around?
Amazon will have me my spiffy new Belkin Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR dongle Monday. I'll be using my existing D-Link dongle this weekend to hopefully get the rest of the stack up. Deniability for iRex is: um didn't Scotty write that? Go bug him if it isn't working. |

How about the solution that the zaurus uses?
I have a socket compact flash BT card which works fine to connect to my 3G phone. The hardware is essentially the same as the Iliad. Last edited by zeigerpuppy; 11-20-2007 at 12:37 AM. |
