Sluggish text entry?

I didn't see anyone mention it, but I find the Vox chugs down to 1-2 characters per second routinely...what's causing this?

I'm not sure. I notice it only periodically, lasting for about a minute.

I use an alternative keyboard called "Hacker's Keyboard" that gives me a proper full keyboard with function keys and everything. If I change my input method to the normal keyboard and back hacker's keyboard it fixes the issue.
