Free book (nook/Kindle/Copia) - Under the Black Ensign [Pirate Pulp Fiction]

Another month, another freebie pulp fiction story from the founder of Scientology.

Under the Black Ensign is L. Ron Hubbard's Golden Age tale of pirates in historical times. Free in the B&N store courtesy of re-publisher Galaxy Press LLC, which is careful to claim that none of its funds go to the religion he founded.

The synopsis is really short, but the Publishers Weekly review makes noises about Errol Flynn and Robert E. Howard and pirates of the Caribbean (but not Pirates of the Carribean).

Synopsis
Golden Age story. Sea Adventure. Originally published in the 1935 August issue of Five Novels Monthly.

Free Book (nook) - Under the Black Ensign

Under the Black Ensign ($3.19 Kindle), by L. Ron Hubbard, is free in the Barnes and Noble store. I expect it will be free in the Kindle store as well, later this month.

Book Description
Tom Bristol barely escapes an unjust death sentence aboard the British HMS Terror when the ship is overtaken by pirates. Soon enough, Bristol is stranded on a desert island for stopping a pirate mutiny. When Lady Jane Campbell joins Tom at sea, things really set sail in this swashbuckling adventure.

Huh. Can't believe I forgot the pirate attack smiley.

Might as well add an e-book roundup of recent B&N freebies that were mostly first announced in the Kindle or other stores which nook users might have overlooked.

ETA: It's been a couple of months, so the following list is no longer valid besides the Star Wars novella, which is still free and I've left in place for anyone who wants it.

Spoiler:

Christian Fiction and Non-Fiction

Jenna's Cowboy, romance by Sharon Gillenwater

Deceit, thriller by Brandilyn Collins. Also at Sony (US-only).

Perfect, medical thriller by medical doctor Harry Kraus. Also at Sony (available to Canadians).

Saint Training, probably YA, by Elizabeth Fixmer. Also at Sony (US-only).

A Girl Named Mister, YA by Nikki Grimes. Also at Sony, available to Canadians.

Coffee Shop Conversations, spiritual self-help by Dale and Jonalyn Fincher. Also at Sony, available to Canadians.

Non-Religious Romance/Erotica

The Matchmakers, monthly Samhain freebie by Jennifer Colgan

Phenomenal Girl 5, superhero romance by A.J. Menden, part of the shared-world SHOMI imprint

Outlander, 1st in a very long time-travel romance series you've probably already heard of if you've been reading romance already. By Diana Gabaldon. Also at Sony (US-only).

Science Fiction/Fantasy

Purgatory, part 5 of Star Wars: Lost Tribe of the Sith novella series by John Jackson Miller. All previous parts still free @ B&N, just click the author's name to bring them up. Also at Sony, available to Canadians, although the other parts were US-only last time I checked.

Spoiler:

Mystery/Suspense/Thriller

Chinatown Beat, 1st in SoHo Crime series by Henry Chang. B&N's Free Fridays book of the week.

I think that's everything that's a) reasonably recent, or b) amazingly still free.

Not only is this still free (or simply repeat) via B&N and Amazon, it's now also shown up as a freebie promotion over at Copia, should anyone want to chance their erratic library/download system.

Also, it seems to be available worldwide (or at least to Canadians), should a kind mod be available to take the "US-only" out of the thread title.

None of the B&N/Sony stuff besides the Star Wars novella in post #3 is free anymore, so I'll spoiler the listing shortly so that the new people aren't disappointed when clicking.
