If you haven't found out already, the beta version of Skype works for chat, but not video. Fring is supposed to work, but I don't think it works for video, either. There is a long, detailed, helpful thread about getting VOIP to work on the PE. You can search for it using the search box at the top of the page.

A search on VoIP comes up with 158 hits, most of which have little or nothing
to do with using VoIP with a PE. (I just love search engines, they are like shotguns).

However, I did find several of interest. I'll slog through those and see if I can glean
enough info to do something.

I was trying to set up Skype and it is asking for a phone number. I don't have a phone number as it is not a phone. Can anyone tell me what to put here?

I found the Skype Beta and it installed, but I cannot log on... I am still using Ermine .9. Do I have to upgrade to 1.0 - 1.02 to get Skype to login?

If I upgrade, I assume that I'll have to install all of my apks again...

Truphone works very good, folks. It's an app, that can launch you Skype account and transform your PE into the phone, of course, you need to have a WiFi connection (o wireless, like people in your country say)

No, I think PE will never run the video connection, unfortunately. And what is charges? Money, you pay for the connection? So, its priceless, you pay only for wifi, if it's not free. I speak by Truphone app absolutly for free ^)

How do you talk to Skype users? I can see only IM, but not voice.

Never mind, figured that out.
Two complains:
- quality is terrible so far, some noise in backgroud;
- voice is over wireless only, not wired; that's puzzling - why.

Don't use a beta version. It can expire.

I saw this version available on the Amazon AppStore today. Wondered if anyone had tried it.

OS requirement is android 2.2, so ermine updates qualify on that score.
