Russel Means, in his autobiography claims that the Pilgrims celebrated Thanksgiving because they had finished the harvest in early October and then went out to kill Native Americans in the area. The thanks was for the successful completion of the campaign. Although Mr Means may have a somewhat skewed vision of the world...
