Waterstone's to cut 200 jobs

Just saw this in my RSS reader:

Waterstone's joins the ranks of high street retailers shedding jobs

Quote:
Some 200 jobs are to be axed at Waterstone's as a result of new measures to cut costs at the books chain.

Staff at the 303-outlet books specialist will be told this morning about the redundancies, as a three-month consultation period gets under way. The retailer employs about 4,500 staff.

I fear it's only going to get worse for retailers. I wonder how libraries are doing and if borrowing is up?

When other high-street retailers have gone bankrupt, Waterstones seem to be doing OK--200 out of 4500 jobs is less than 5 percent. I imagine most of these will be voluntary.
