Using Genre to sort books when saving to device or disk

I use Calibre 0.6.42 in Ubuntu 10.04. By default, the path to save to my device (Papyre 6.1 - Hanlin V3 clone) is:

{author_sort}/{title} - {authors}

and the path to save to disk is:

{author_sort}/{title}/{title} - {authors}

I would like to have my books sorted by genre when I save to my device, so they are not all in the root folder of my SD. Something like:

{genre}/{author_sort}/{title} - {authors}

but unfortunately {genre} is not one of Calibre fields. I have read that tags can be used to describe genre, so I have tried {tags}:

{tags}/{author_sort}/{title}/{title} - {authors}

and it woks, but it will create weird folders when multiple tags are used.

Is there a way to have it done?

Ideally, I would like to have a genre field or a way to specify that a given tag may be used for sorting purposes (like a main genre). Something like:

tags: young, _fiction_, classic (here 'fiction' is the main genre)

and then I could use something like:

{tags_sort}/{author_sort}/{title}/{title} - {authors}

You can use the option for custom columns to create a Genre column. However at the moment that cannot be used in the Save to Disk template, but the ability to do so is on the ToDo list. I personally have started populating a Genre column in my own library in anticipation of being able to use it in the future.

An alternative is to use a custom column to hold any tags that are not genre related, but I think this has its own downsides although I have not tried it to check that out.

Until that feature appears

Do what itimpi suggested, first, then sort/filter on that field.

Then create the various genre folders on your device.
Using this template
Code:
{author_sort}/{title} - {authors}
Select books for a single Genre and use the "Save to disk",
BUT Indicate the Genre folder, instead of the (device) drive.
