This has been the consensus in all side by side comparisons.
The reason I bought the PRS-350 instead of the Kindle, Nook or one of the LCD based readers is specifically because of the small size yet incredible sharpness of the XS font (the same font on the PRS 650 and 950 was simply unacceptable). I have no difficulty reading it, in fact compared to the text on iPhone /iPod touch it seems HUGE.... Speaking of which, it's interesting to note that the PRS 350 has 200dpi, the 650 only 160 dpi , but the iPhone "retina" display is 326 dpi.. it's really sharp, but due to the angular luminance disparity of all LCD devices it's much more fatiguing to read. To be honest I don't see why everyone makes a big deal about this. If the lower resolution doesn't bother you then it's not an issue. If it does bother you then there's really only one obvious choice. But trying to argue that they should be viewed at different distances is horse&$@t. If you want to use TV viewing distances, I used an online calculator to calculate the seating distance per inch of diagonal screen to 0.4 feet. If we actually examined users, I can postulate with almost perfect certainty that, on average, 650 users aren't holding their devices 0.4 feet farther than 350 users. |
