I run 9.28 on XP SP3: I used Count Pages plugin all the time (on EPUB)
No problems.

I have it configured for:
Pages, ADE algorithm
Flesh-Kincaid
Gunning Fox

Button default: Estimate page counts
Overwrite existing word/page counts

I also use Count Pages regularly, and since upgrading to calibre 0.9.28. I page count against both EBUB and MOBI (which I believe is converted to EPUB to perform the count) without any issues.

I am running Count Pages v1.6.5. See screen shot for my current Count Pages settings. I have included my page and word count custom column definitions as well.

Note: I have seen a number of plug-in updates due to changes made to calibre 0.9.29. So there may be a new update for this plug-in as well.

This sort of error can occur if you ignore the warning telling you to restart calibre after updating a plugin... other than that, the plugin is working perfectly fine for both me and other users as shown above.

For Mac users:

0. Download the original plugin.
1. Unzip "Count Pages.zip", a folder named "Count Pages" will be created.
2. Inside that folder locate and open the file "statistics.py" (TextWrangler -free- works fine).
3. Find and replace the line 108:

Find:    "            internal_path = os.path.relpath(spath, iterator.base).replace('\\','/')"
Replace: "            internal_path = os.path.relpath(spath.replace('/private',''), iterator.base).replace('\\','/')"
(without quotes, of course)
4. Save "statistics.py"
5. Zip the contents of the folder "Count Pages". Note that is the contents (12 items), not the folder "Count Pages". Rename if neccesary the new zipped archive to "Count Pages.zip"
6. That's all, install and enjoy the plugin.

Edit: Fixed in the v1.6.6 release.

Without the patch, the result of the algorithm "Adobe Digital Editions (ADE)" is always 0 pages. This patch fixes that.

Hmmm... this plugin has been around for a couple of years now, and not one user has reported such an issue with it.

@loximuthal (or griker or others), are you able to confirm that this is the case? Maybe the other Mac users don't use this particular algorithm. I can add some platform specific conditional logic into the plugin if it requires it, but if others aren't having a problem I'm not changing anything..

I was not using the ADE algorithm, so I suppose that is why I never noticed a problem. When I switched to it all my page counts did indeed come out "0". After making the change SimpleText recommends I began getting non-zero page counts with the ADE algorithm.

  • For Mac users using the ADE algorithm fix an issue with paths (as submitted by SimpleText)

Thanks to SimpleText for reporting the issue and fix and Loximuthal for verifying it, I don't have a Mac to test this myself.

Hi. I created the custom columns like indicated, but I want to have a comma as a thousands separator.
I read the documentation and used {:,} as formatting.
But I always get a decimal point (23,987.0). Everything I can come up with, seems to increase the number of decimal points shown.
Could you tell me what can I do, please?

I read and I used {0:,} too. But I still get the '.0' at the end of each count.
