Yes. Unless I have to move it off /mnt/us? I even tried with exec. What is your magic word in your debug...json? I put:
Code:
  ";kterm" : "/mnt/us/extensions/xterm/bin/kterm"

No I put it there so that the keyboard layout works as it had the path hardcoded.

Hey, do you find that the command run from search bar will become a zombie process when it terminates?

Not sure. Can't login and look - on the road, no computer with me. What exactly do you want me to check exactly once I get close to a computer?

This works for me:
Code:
";kterm" : "/mnt/us/extensions/kterm/bin/kterm"
Don't forget to add comma at the end of previous line if this is your last line. Also be sure to restart kindle.

Yes, same happens to usbnetwork.sh started from search bar. This must be the way pillowd works. These zombie processes don't do any harm.

Well, that would be closer to true if the device was running swap.
but it isn't.

Since the device's normal use is sleep/resume - those zombies will eventually fill all memory.
Without swap, the VMM has no place to put them to free the ram.

Ahh found the problem. I did have a "," at the end of last line. Which broke it. Now I can start it, but can't figure out how to use it. I see the prompt, and I can type on the keyboard, but it does not show up in the terminal up top.

I don't agree. Zombie processes don't occupy any resources. They only exist in process table. The only risk would be that they would eventually eat up all PIDs, but on Kindle it would take a lot of time. Maximum number of processes is 32768 in this case and there are less then 100 processes running on kindle. This is a big buffer to fill
Code:
COMMAND RSS %CPU VSZ SZ
kterm <defunct> 0 0.0 0 0
usbne <defunct> 0 0.0 0 0

Nitpick: Linux does not use 15bits for the process id.
pid_t is "int" which on a 32bit processor - is 32 bits.

That's true, but maximum number of processes is limited by kernel. By default it is set to 32768, but may be changed.
Code:
[root@kindle root]# cat /proc/sys/kernel/pid_max
32768

Maybe, if I have time That should be fairly easy.
Here's a version of kterm 0.2 with this feature added. Only the source is linked because I couldn't get it to cross compile to Kindle, but I don't think it will be incompatible. My changes are marked with "FVEK". There's three areas of additions and one deletion. If your command has options, make sure it's in quotes like: kterm -e "command -o"
