^^ I've read the Black Widowers before but thanks anyway.

I'm bumping this thread because I've been watching some heist movies and was wondering if anyone knows of any Science Fiction 'caper' stories?

And let us not forget Douglas Adams' "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency". Sci-fi + humor +Detective. Or John Zakour's "The Plutonium Blonde" and the rest of his Zach Series.

Deathworld by Harry Harrison isn't quite a heist, but it came immediately to mind - and it is available for free (4 versions in Patricia Clark Memorial Library here, e.g. Harrison, Harry: Deathworld v1 17 mar 2009).

Another good moneyed sf book is We the Underpeople by Cordwainer Smith.

You managed to recommend Harry Harrison, but NOT The Stainless Steel Rat?

Not precisely a heist per se but you sure get the same mindset. Be aware that after the original three books it almost becomes a different series.

Is the one here the whole trilogy or just the first book?

I found a cool article on tor.com about heist/caper stories in genre fiction. Not all of them are SF but the article and comments section are filled with recommendations.

There is always 'The Starlight Barking', the sci-fi sequel to 101 Dalmations.

Charles Stross' 'Halting State' is sf + crime thriller. Peter F. Hamilton's 'Night's Dawn Trilogy' is sf + horror.
