calibre partially ignoring local metadata on import

Hi, I am importing some calibre-created epubs and the files come in with the author misidentified as the title and no title or other info assigned. manually editing the metadata and exporting produces files that reimport correctly. the metadata in the exported files appears to be tagged identically to the file that does not import correctly. the files that do not import correctly are identified as calibre-created files.

I have scrubbed google search and this forum for similar problems and find no record of a similar issue.

attempting to use the automatic remote metadata import misidentifies the books as other books by the same author.

Any tips? Thanks in advance.

You can read metadata from books you add in two ways.

1. Using a regexp template to parse the filename.
2. Using the metadata stored inside the book.

Since you are having troubles I assume that you are using method 1. Method 2. would most likely work much better in this case, assuming the metadata inside the book actually is correct.

You can change methods in Preferences, under Adding books. Set the tick from "Read metadata from file contents rather than file name."

Another possibility is that the books that cause problems have not had their metadata updated to reflect what the GUI in calibre display about them. Calibre use a lazy update of metadata inside the actual books. Calibre only updates the metadata when the books are sent to device or saved to disk. If the books are manually copied directly from inside the calibre library, then the metadata may very well be bonkers.

perfect tip!

turning on the read-from-in-file setting resolved the issue.
