Free Book (Kindle/Sony) - Loving A Lost Lord
Loving A Lost Lord, by Mary Jo Putney, returns as a free title in the Kindle store (it was free last June) and is also free in the Sony bookstore.
Book Description In the first of a dazzling series, Mary Jo Putney introduces the Lost Lords -- maverick childhood friends with a flair for defying convention. Each is about to discover the woman who is his perfect match -- but perfection doesn't come easily, even for the noble Duke of Ashton. . . Battered by the sea, Adam remembers nothing of his past, his ducal rank, nor of the shipwreck that almost claimed his life. However, he's delighted to hear that the golden-haired vision tending his wounds is his wife. Mariah's name and face may not be familiar, but her touch, her warmth, feel deliciously right. . . When Mariah Clarke prayed for a way to deter a bullying suitor, she didn't imagine she'd find the answer washed ashore on a desolate beach. Convincing Adam that he is her husband is surprisingly easy. Resisting the temptation to act his wife, in every way, will prove anything but. And now a passion begun in fantasy has become dangerously real-and completely irresistible. . . |

Free? Maybe because of the poor reviews?

Yes, it was number one in a series and number 2 came out on sale May 1st - Never Less Than A Lady. RT Book Reviews gives NLTAL 4 1/2 stars and it's a top pick.
(I bought it today.) Loving A Lost Lord won the RT Best Historical K.I.S.S. Hero Award. It means Knight In Shining Silver - I think. It means the hero is swoonworthy. |

A "hybrid" is something derived from more than one source or composed of different elements. Thus "Romance/Historical" means something that is derived from those two elements.
A "Romance/Historical" piece of writing (within the context of a Genre), would be writing containing both the elements of "Romance" and of "Historical" fiction. Don |

And while the paranormal romance subgenre is full of vampires, werewolves, were-tigers (and various other manner of were-creatures), witches, angels, demons, zombies...so far, "Lord" in a romance generally refers to British aristocracy. |

Actually, I too would call it an "Historical Romance," which is exactly as you stated. For some reason, I think (?) I quoted from Amazon - I can't remember now. I spent almost 30 years working in bookstores, and back when I was in my early 20s, I worked at a place that sold used paperbacks. The women (and 2 men - [this is true]) were fanatical about their Harlequin Romances and wanted NOTHING to do with Historical Fiction - those fat paperback novels with a dose of romance in them. The main thrust (no pun intended) of those Harlequins (and I read one because one of my friends had just published a Harlequin) dealt ONLY with Romance - everything centered around "Romance and the Difficulties Of Having a Romance and of Remembering His Smoldering Kiss and Wanting it Again and Again"- Uggggg! I can't think of anything more unhygenic, can you? So, yeah, I would call this category of fiction "Historical Romance," although I would still stick to the idea that it's a hybrid type of alliance. For "Soft Porn," many people - both men and women - now read "Paranormal Romances," [or "Paranormal Fiction"] - another strange hybrid of Fiction, where much thrusting occurs - and much more.
