^Beat me too it...of course great minds think alike.

"Proust in his first book, wrote about, wrote about, Proust in his first book, he wrote about, he wrote about..."

Everything can be a competition. I find the challenge keeps me reading when I might just sit in front of the TV instead.

Wow, that was 40 years ago. I remember watching the original on TV as though it were last week .

Don't put ideas into our heads. It's bad enough already.

(Who wants a race, next year? )

My mom tells me stories that as a kid she and her sister would each grab a Thornton W. Burgess book and race to finish reading them.

Seriously, what's with the "goal" obsession around here?

Free-range readers unite!!
+1.
Surely it's more of an achievement to find and read
one good book than 10 bad ones.

For what it's worth, I sometimes set myself goals because it's nice to have something to aim for but I tend to aim quite low, if at all, because otherwise, when I fail, it annoys me.

Indeed when it comes to me and goals... Douglas Adams' words about deadlines spring to mind...

I'm with DomesticExtremis, which is what I'm in most of the time by the way. I found a book I loved this year but I hardly read any others and, anyway, it was probably only so good because of my perspective; it chimed in perfectly with events in my own life.

Cheers

Phnark! Sorry about that, it was called Are We Nearly There Yet?: A Family's 8000 Miles Around Britain in a Vauxhall Astra by Ben Hatch.

I have a Kindle and it's only £1.99 on Amazon - I doubt it's much more elsewhere. I have a four year old boy, he has a four and two year old, my dad is sick, his dad gets sick...

Definitely recommended. (Edited to add, not because I have a kid and a sick dad, that's just why it rang true for me...

Cheers
