It is one of the downsize i find about the sony before i purchase i was told that it held up to 8GB when i try to put 2.2 GB which is suposedly much less than advertize i am told by sony that it is too much & they don't have an answer to that. My main concern with the cool-er was that cpu is twice the sony so is the ram. so i ask them if all would fit & have the device working at a fine speed. They could not tel me for sure but they said that the unit was made for high usage & that i should by it & return without charge in 14 days if it failed. I am not too found of returns i prefer asking advice from users first. I know that a lot of new ebooks are comming out from now till end of year (TXTR is also supposed to come out & has 532 cpu which much higher that 160-200 cpu from sony). If none of the device on the market fit my needs than i will simply wait till there is one that fits. I already have 1 unit that doesnt do what i want no need to spend for another. Also, using calibre with the new unit is one of my concerns because all my library is in there. I love the way it works, i love the conversion tools that is very powerful & i do not see myself starting with a new library software. All my titles are place has i wish & that took a lot of work. Already if i change unit i will probably have to convert a hole buch of files from lrf to epub (cool-er). If ever anyone has a very high usage like i do & is using another device that works whell please let me know. The kindle DX look good too but has i am not in the states purchase of it is out of the question. Thanks for all your comment so far you have been a great help... |

Depending on what shipping costs are that doesn't look to be that much better a price than what you can get buying the Cool-er directly from the companies website: http://www.coolreaders.co.uk/readers.asp I am guessing p+p is shipping costs? Amy |

Can you attach the ioreg.txt file? It has the necessary information to finish support for OS X.

@superbimble: That output indicates calibre is already successfully detecting the cool-er

i have put most of the books on a 2GB SD card but it takes 45 min to 60 min to load the card when it is full & then it doesnt keep the tags that i put in calibre with it so all the collections are gone. I have also tried to have 4 x 512MB sd card. it takes 5-7 min to load the card but when you often change the cards eventualy all the filling you spent time doing in calibre for tags & authors etc. ends up being lost.
So the only option i was left with is realy keeping a max of 800 books. Even with the 800 books, the first time i will load a new book that i added on the prs505 the unit will resset (5-7 min) after i have select page 3 of the book. After the resset, i can re-open the same book without problem. It is just not powerful enough for what i would like. I hope some other ebook device is going to come out soon to replace it. I even look into notebook but it doesnt have eink so much harder for the eyes to read on it... |

so many books?
I can't imagine needing to carry 800 books with me, unless I was going to be in the middle of nowhere for MONTHS. I store a majority of my books on my computer and carry maybe a 100 or so on my Cool-er.
It doesn't surprise me that they have trouble handling very large libraries, I expect that the designers really only expected that the average user to have 200 or less books on a reader at a time. Having worked on a project where the description of what the item did and the reality of how well it did it were two different things. Sure the printer can handle 100 lb paper... but it will jam every 5 pages, but they still say that 100lb paper can be used with, the expectation is that most customers won't be using that weight of paper and the fact that it jams every few pages won't be a real "issue". Sure you can use A5 paper.. though it will almost always pick 3 pieces of it at once, but you can still use A5 paper. Amy |
