Lightbulb Call for Submissions- New Publisher

Hey guys!

I just wanted to put this out there, in case anyone is interested. Iguana Books is a new epublisher that is launching and we are looking for new authors to add to our online slushpile!

Our brochure site is web.iguanabooks.com, if you want to check it out! Our big site is in the midst of being polished for launch, and as it houses the slushpile, our brochure site does not have information about it. So feel free to ask me questions.

If you'd like to submit a manuscript, or privately ask questions, email me at mackenzie@iguanabooks.com.

I hope this interests some of you!

Our office is in Canada, but we take submissions from anywhere. We also don't discriminate based on genre. If it's good writing and something we'd like to get behind, we'll take it

This says that you will charge the writer for all editorial costs, so I'm a bit confused about what you bring to the table in return for your cut of the sales (which will presumably be forever).

-That is for another service we offer that has nothing to do with our slushpile. We have a different business model then the traditional publishing houses. We don't pay advances and the author pays for some of the costs. Our slushpile is for those authors that don't wish to pay. Instead we put you in our slushpile and people can preorder your book. If you get enough preorders, it covers the publishings costs. You also get an 85% royalty on the books, which is a lot better then the 25% the traditional publishers offer for ebooks.

GeoffC
-We don't withhold taxes. You can claim them on your tax return.

We do all genres, minus illustrated books (ie. children and cookbooks) because we don't think the software is up to par for those yet.

Hmmmm.......

This is exactly the path I was about head down. As far as pay, percentage, rights, etc...

I definitely think epublishing if the way of/to the future, full of opportunities and perils.
My question to you then Iguana is -- why should I go with you rather than publish myself on Amazon?

That is very much the million dollar question here.

Why go with a us rather than going it alone? Here are few reasons:

Quality. We may be new as a publisher, but as a publishing services company we’ve been editing and designing books for major publishers since 1977. Going it alone, you won’t even know which editors are good and which ones are wannabes. Your book will be fully professional – and readers CAN tell the difference.

Credibility. Readers will come to know that they can trust Iguana books to be a totally professional – they’re all “good reads.” You get to benefit from our reputation.

Community. Publish the book yourself, and you do it in isolation. When we publish each book, that author’s readership visits our site – and some of them will see other books they want to buy. As we grow, more and more readers will discover your book.

Continuity. We don’t just want to publish your book. We want to foster your career as a writer. We want to build your readership.

Reach. Our books will be in all the major bookstores. Worldwide.

Marketing. Our focus is on marketing the books we publish. The other companies that help people publish their books make most of their money from the fees they charge the writers. How backwards is that? We make most of our money by selling books.

Now, of course these aren't the only reasons. And if you are dead set on self publishing, there isn't much I can say to persuade you to publish with us instead. But I hope you see it as an opportunity that you just can't pass up.

Yes we do, but only if it has been professionally edited first. And we reserve the right to say what has or has not been professionally edited to our standards. If it works for us, we send you a contract.
