Free (Kindle/Kobo/Mills & Boon) The Uncrowned Queen [Medieval Historical w/Romance]
The Uncrowned Queen (Short story prequel to The King's Concubine) by Anne O'Brien is just what it says in the title, about King Edward III of England and Philippa of Hainault, free courtesy of publisher Harlequin's MIRA imprint.
The MIRA imprint seems to be the one under which they put their assorted not-primarily-romance-y chick-lit, suspense/thrillers, and action adventure/urban fantasy tales, so this seems likely to be closer to a romantic-influenced historical than a dedicated historical romance (especially considering how some of the real-life characters die, which in certain cases is not how I'd want to go at all), which author O'Brien has written for their more centrally Harlequin-branded lines. Currently free @ Amazon UK, likely to drop in the main store and show up elsewhere once it gets "officially" published in North America tomorrow on the 9th. Description Her path to the throne is paved with treason… 1330. Philippa of Hainault may be married to King Edward III but she’s penniless and powerless. England quivers in the clutches of the Dowager Queen Isabella and her darkly ambitious lover Lord Mortimer while her husband rots in jail, a prisoner at Mortimer’s hand. It will take a courageous young man to emerge from the shadows and rise up against this formidable pair. Philippa won’t sit back and see Edward puppeteered. She is determined to see justice done. It’s her words whispered into the young King Edward’s ear that will see the battle for England’s throne commence. Mightier have fallen. Treason threatens. The victor’s prize is England…failure is death. It’s a powerful union that ties Philippa and Edward in this darkly captivating short story but will it always be so? Don’t miss Anne O’Brien’s new book THE KING’S CONCUBINE. |

Seems U.S. residents are victims of geo restrictions. I can't see it on Amazon nor on Kobo.

Well now I'm taking it personally...
I've searched author, title, author/title...see she has a new one coming out in June....and I can see the listing on the Amazon UK site, although it's unavailable to me. Guess my karma's just not working today. |

I clicked the provided link to Amazon main (USA) and it says "Pricing information not available." for The Uncrowned Queen (Short story prequel to The King's Concubine).
I also searched. There is a preorder option for the book The King's Concubine: A Novel of Alice Perrers at $9.99 being offered. I clicked on the provided link to Kobo and it says "This content is not available internationally. Unfortunately, this content is only available in select countries, and we do not currently have the rights to offer this content for browsing or purchasing in." I also left the linked site and opened a new window to do a search for this title on Kobo. It was not found. EDIT: also not found on The Harlequin MIRA imprint site. This may not be published here yet. Last edited by dreams; 04-27-2012 at 03:44 PM. |

This may simply not be available/slated for free outside the UK. Even though Mills & Boon is the UK spinoff of Harlequin and they mostly share a common catalogue and MIRA is primarily an HQN imprint, they do tend not to share freebies across the pond, and this doesn't yet exist in the worldwide Harlequin catalogue, even though they've got some of O'Brien's other historicals.
It's free @ the Mills & Boon site, for anyone who wants to try downloading from them if they accept non-UK customers. |

Thank you! It worked for me (USA) and was a direct ePub download without signing in.
