Exactly the same is true of England. They have some superb players, but they simply don't seem to be able to perform as a team. Perhaps one of the problems is that the English Premier League is so completely dominated by overseas players (it's not unknown for a club to have not one English player in their first-team squad) that English players just don't get the exposure necessary at the very top level of the game.

Pretty close to best team for sure. I think we had four reasonably deserving sides in the semi-finals. I only wish Chile had pulled out the game against Brazil and throw out the Suarez shenanigans and see what Uruguay could have done.

Otherwise a most entertaining tournament. Very few drab matches.

A well-deserved congratulations to Germany.

I can't help but wonder how a Germany-Netherlands match would have turned out. I think the German team would still have won, but that pairing could have made for an exciting match.

^Certainly seems better than Brazil-Argentina. As much as I love Argentina I could see that game with almost no push and both teams playing for penalties at 120 minutes.
