LG has been working with e-ink since lg merged with phillips years ago. the first e-ink panels were made with eink and phillips together.
the first panel maker was not PVI. the first generation Sony Libre launched in 2004 was created by a partnership between Phillips(now lg Phillips), Sony , Eink and Toppan Printing http://www.eink.com/press/releases/pr70.html they started that development in 2001. PolymerVision was spun out of Phillips in 2007 http://www.eetasia.com/ART_880044822...T_98b12bc8.HTM LG only just got a license to produce panels on their own but they have been developing with it for 9 years or so as Phillips. You are confusing their license to produce panels on their own with their developing the whole tech to do so. LG/Phillips has been at it far longer than a couple months Last edited by Dulin's Books; 01-06-2010 at 12:49 PM. |

Not sure what this means. There are many electronic parts in your Sony that too will corrode and cause permanent damage if exposed to saltwater for long enough.

Ask any avid golfer about different mixtures/grades of stainless (club heads as well as shafts but mostly about club heads) and you will get an hour long discussion. BTW, the proper mixture also creates a stainless which is not only structurally strong but also flexible. And in an ereader panel those seem to be some very desirable properties. But for all intents and purposes, odds are that a reader's other parts will turn to dust before the stainless steel becomes too brittle due to corrosion. |

So, why LG panel just come on the market ?? Why LG does not sell Eink panel since 2001 ? Why PVI made panel not LG ? Even if Philips is one of the first to work on this technology. and LG exist before "LG Philips" and LG is really something like a squid, one tentacle can do something that other are not aware of. Before LG Philips, LG was doing others things etc.. Sorry, but your argumentation does not explitly say that LG was working since 2001 on Eink panel, but Philips. And the Philips part that work on this split to become Polymer Vision, and some time before/after LG join with Philips but not necessarily with the Eink panel in their boxes. If LG was working on Eink panel since 2001 (like you seems to say) WHY they were not the first manufacturer of Eink panel? They have larger factory than PVI... |

If you don't think the LG panel will be any good because you think they have only been working on it for a few months then don't buy it. Otherwise, wait till it comes out, have a look at it and see what you think. Cheers, PKFFW |

I'm aware no photos are allowed of the skiff reader, but on this page, there is a photo of the skiff dev kit reader. The difference between this and the 'real' reader are stark.
I hope the real skiff looks as in the renderings and not be a reality-check like the Notion Ink Adam with Pixel Qi screen: Pre CES rendering: Actual CES Prototype: If anything, this may mean that the final products are quite a ways off from consumer hands. |

I did another "mock-up" comparison of the physical sizes for the "big" readers.
They are very similar in size, but the Skiff has the highest resolution. I hope the Skiff will be made available in Europe for a sane amount of money. First I thought to get a Kindle DX, but the PDF support is not that good, and PDF would be my primary application for a reader of that size and resolution. Edit: corrected completely messed up dimensions, posted new picture, sorry for the mess Last edited by DeReader; 01-08-2010 at 03:20 PM. Reason: corrected dimensions of mock-ups with new photo |

So the DX is the smallest, then Que, and then Skiff. Perhaps you're using the screen sizes or just 'eyeballing' it. |

badbob001, thanks, you're right, I did something wrong by converting to the metric system. Will check it and repost!

Maybe I'm wrong, but asking to not take photo of a device is generally not a good sign...
