Kindle for Mac auto update did not work..

Kindle for Mac on my iMac stopped syncing. Support told me to update to the latest app. My software was 1.4 Newest was 1.6.

Here's the strange thing. I had "auto update" TURNED ON in prefs but the software never notified me of updates nor did it "auto" update as it was supposed to.

Lesson... don't trust Kindle Auto Update

Some folks are turning Kindle For Mac or Kindle For PC autoupdate off by choice. Interesting discussion in this thread in News:

But if it doesn't work when it's on, then I wouldn't necessarily trust it to stay off.

Edit. Or that on or off means anything significant.

Now that I think about it, my Kindle For Mac's auto-update didn't work either, when it was on for at least 6 months. I know this because newer versions showed up at Amazon and to get one I had to download manually, deinstall the old, reinstall the new, reregister. Only a month or two ago.
