Amazon's now selling more ebooks than paperbacks

Just saw this article:

http://money.cnn.com/2011/01/27/tech...n_bin&hpt=Sbin

I knew it was coming. Just didn't think it'd be this soon.

Interestingly, a number of authors selling their backlist as Kindle and Pubit self-repubs are reporting higher sales at B&N than at Amazon in the last month--and that's been true for me, too. I wonder if that's just a blip, or the beginning of a trend.

Good to hear your backlist doing well (or at least better) for you...

Thanks! Sales started out s-l-o-w. But in the last month, they've been picking up. (Not Konrath-style, mind you. But encouraging growth.)

Possibly a bunch of Nookcolor owners looking for books!

Also, I wonder if the lower cost self-pubs are easier to locate on B&N than Amazon?

Quite likely.

Seems unlikely. Besides, my bestselling title at both places is a 3-book omnibus at $6.99 -- which wouldn't necessarily show up on a search for low prices.

Strange that Amazon would be celebrating the potential beginning of the end for a huge sector of their business, namely the paperback

Not really - they have 80% or so of the US e-book market, but only 15% or so of the US paperback market.

Amazon is celebrating sales in general. They sell everything, not just books. I'm sure they aren't super concerned about their physical market going down as their electronic one goes up.

Is there a program on Amazon similar to the self publishing one on B&N?
