I think getting kids to read via a gadget is great. My iPad already does this though. And the great thing about it is that it's interactive too, they can do activities while they read. The disney books are a great example of this. Absolutely amazing.

You do both. My 3 yr old loves the story, then doing activities. It engages the mind in different ways. Just the way I have to tailor my training sessions at work to different learning styles.
