Hmm. I was very happy with my iRiver mp3 player-recorder, for what that's worth. If an iRiver e-book reader was available in the states, I'd give it a serious look.

Hardware-wise, it's not their design. It's a rebranded Netronix device.

Would also have to doublecheck - there was a comment on one of the gadget blogs that the IRiver Japan and iriver are two different companies, the iriver that we're used to is based in Korea ...

No official word from iriver.
A year ago I would have jump all over this, given the dearth of options in Japan, but with all the exciting new readers coming, and sellers happy to ship to Japan, the old netronix reader looks soooooo 2008 now.

If memory serves, yes Sony's was called Libre ....

iRiver products are usually good.
