Amazon Now Selling More Kindle Books Than All Print Books

Interesting read. I guess the "tipping point" has arrived.

Quote:
It took Amazon less than four years from the launch of Kindle in November 2007 to reach this point, a moment of much glee for CEO Jeff Bezos. In his statement, Bezos said: “Customers are now choosing Kindle books more often than print books. We had high hopes that this would happen eventually, but we never imagined it would happen this quickly—we’ve been selling print books for 15 years and Kindle books for less than four years.”

Exactly the same quote appears on numerous sites, if you do a Google search, so it would appear to be an Amazon press release.

Do you have a link to a document from the US Amazon saying this. Perhaps this is the case in Amazon as a whole but perhaps not in any one of the national subsidaries.

Here's the press release. You can find the Press Releases link at the bottom of Amazon's front page.

And, because this question gets asked every time Amazon says anything about Kindle ebook sales

Buy pbook, wait for a week for shipping, then read book... Or, buy ebook, wait a minute to download, then read book.

Given the choice, I'd happily take the ebook route. It's more convenient, and most of the time looks nicer.

You forgot to mention that, as per usual, Amazon didn't put out any real numbers.

Looks like the ad-supported Kindle is also a big hit.

I'm very surprised by the UK sales figures, that hit very fast. Or is Amazon not that big a player in the UK?

Amazon are now, I'd say, by far the biggest player in the UK eBook market, and they seem to be putting a lot of effort into getting the Kindle sold in as many different outlets as possible. Eg, Tesco, the UK's biggest supermarket chain, sells the Kindle in its larger stores. I notice there's also a full-page Kindle ad on the back cover of this week's "Radio Times" (the leading TV listings magazine in the UK).

I know nothing about British magazines, but that strikes me as odd. It is definitely my impression that here in the US television watchers are not readers.

Interesting...., you mentioned sometime back that ePUB was the dominate format, with Amazon becoming the largest player, has the tied turned.

I'm referring to the numbers of sales not number of venders.
