.Kobo\version directory missing - error communicating

Hi...I just got my Kobo Wireless back from repair, all was factory reset. I tried to connect with Calibre and got the following error message:

Error communicating with device

=============================

I confirmed that there is no version file/directory under .Kobo
I checked for others with this problem but didn't see a solution posted...thanks in advance for any advice.
I uninstalled Calibre, reinstalled, ran repair, welcome wizard, still get this error. I can see all of my Kobo content fine through Windows.

Your Kobo is missing its firmware version indicator. I'll add a workaround to the kobo driver for that in the next release.

Calibre error :no such table: dbversion

I was trying to fix one problem with my Kobo and I created another.
I was getting the error (reader has no storage card)
I read ticket #7338 and tried to follow instructions carfully, but I have created more, problems.

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\device.py", line 64, in run
File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\device.py", line 307, in _books
File "site-packages\calibre\devices\kobo\driver.py", line 183, in books
OperationalError: no such table: dbversion

I am using Calibre 7.47.

Thank you.
