Interested in Old Periodicals?

I have some old magazines and periodicals from the 19th and early 20th century that are no longer under copyright. Stuff like Victor Records featuring new musicians etc. It's meant for those that might appreciate this kind of historical content. It's interesting to see how journalists wrote then and it's interesting to see initial reactions to historical events i.e. the Titanic sinking or featuring an article about phonographs "Edison's new phonic device!".

If I do this I don't want to just scan the pages, I'd prefer to create a version optimized for ereaders. Transcribing the text, rearranging the layout and borders etc. to make it look like it was made for a 6" screen. The only thing that I'd scan is the pictures.

I may think of publishing a compilation ebook that has the best articles from all periodicals. I'll have to peruse and see if there are enough "best" to do that.

Would people interesting in reading this though?

I guess that depends on the publications and the authors.

I'd suggest seeing if you could get it digitised through Digital Proofreaders

http://www.pgdp.net/c/

You might even find that some of them have already been done...

I enjoy old magazines, newspapers, etc., especially the ads. They often tell the story of history - for example, look at magazine ads just before the 1929 financial crash and then a couple of years later, in the Great Depression. No surprise that offerings go from luxury to basics, but it is interesting to look back. I hope to see what you have.
