Lots of covers for the new Sony readers

I saw listings for several covers for both the new 600 and 300 readers at Adorama. In addition to the standard leather covers and the lighted covers on display at the Canadian Sony online store, Adorama is listing a zippered cover for both models, and something called a "clutch cover" for both models. Unfortunately, there are no pictures for any of these covers available at Adorama.

A call to Adorama today confirmed that none of these covers are in stock there yet.

I didn't ask about the current availability, but they also showed a protective sticker-type skin for the 700 and a car charger for the Sony readers.

They even have a gold clutch one. Hmmm. That would look great with an evening gown. You can whip out your reader when the opera gets boring.

Might look really good with the red 600.

I wish somebody would have some pictures and pre-ordering for these cases soon! I'm going crazy here. I pre-ordered new readers for my husband and myself, and I need a cover, dang it!

However, I think I've decided I'm just going to order the lighted case when it becomes available. I've gotten so attached to my lightwedge cover that I don't think I can live without some sort of portable light source.

I tried a Mighty Bright telescoping LED booklight with my stock PRS-505 cover last night. The light uses 3 AAA batteries, which made it heavy hanging off the top of my cover. It also had a big clip that, while sturdy, was scratching the back of my beautiful red reader and was so thick that it tilted my reader up at an angle. It had the most beautifully even lighting that I've ever seen from a booklight, but I just don't see myself using it. I'm not going to let it scratch up my beautiful new 600.

But, that gold clutch does sound intriguing. I'd like it if it's metallic gold. If it's vinyl or plastic that's the color of gold wall paint, not so much.

Yes, I've been poring over that Sony Canadian site all weekend. I don't like the looks of the lighted case very much, but I think I'll have to get it any way. I still want to see the zipper case and the clutch case, though.

Hmmm... the lighted cover for the 300 is not a lightwedge -- it's just a light attached to the cover -- similar, I think, to the M-Edge covers.

I was surprised that the lighted cover for the 300 wasn't a lightwedge - after all, it doesn't have a touch screen. I guess Sony wanted both lighted covers to look alike. As I said in another thread, I think the new lighted covers look as if they took the current lighted wedge covers, sawed off the clear wedge, and cut a channel in the black plastic piece that held the wedge so the flexible neck would store in it. The barrel-shaped section with the power switch looks just like the battery compartment on my current wedge cover.

It's not as nice looking (in my opinion) as the current wedge cover, but at least I won't have a heavy light hanging off the top of my cover.

Interestingly, clutches are marked "Compatible with: All Reader models". And zippers have a logo which looks like CaseLogic.
