The name for 3.12.0 is and always will be RALPH!

The reason it's called Ralph is because of the definition of Ralph as a verb (to ralph, he/she just ralphed).

I disagree.

While there isn't much in this release, none of it seems to be bad. Or fitting with the verb definition of ralph.

Some of the releases in the past would fit, especially those issued, allowed to burp around a bit and then be vomited forth from Kobo in a changed state...

Hey sorry, I'm totally going to have to hijack this and ask you to explain what you mean by "ghosting". Is it when you turn the page and it just doesn't look right while it's transitioning? So hard to explain, maybe you can try to explain it to me.

Ghosting is when you turn the page and the black pigment doesn't completely go away but leaves a slightly greyish ghost image of the old page.

What's new in the latest Kobo FW versions is that you get a ghost image of the cover image when you wake the reader up from sleep. I don't mind too much*, but some can't stand it it seems.

*No, Kobo, that doesn't mean you shouldn't fix it!!!

Ghosting is explained in the post above me and under yours,(at a page turn you can see the previous page a bit shining trough the new page) it is normal by e-readers unless you set the refresh rate at every page, but the new problem is indeed the cover that in sleep mode is activated..when the device wakes up,you see the cover under the words so clear that it is almost impossible to read sometimes, the only thing that helps is change margins or letterype, then the page is re-rendered and then it's gone.
Problem 2 is that with almost every new "mistake" in a firmware, it often takes 3 of more updates until it is fixed.

And the new ghosting problem isn't just a "slightly greyish" image of the cover, but instead looks almost like the cover and the page you are trying to read are both being displayed simultaneously. Very distracting. (Although for some reason, the problem has disappeared for me on 3.11.0. While it was happening, though, it was driving me nuts!)

Using firmware 3.11.0 on a Kobo Glo ghosting has not improved compared to previous firmware releases.

When opening a book
  • from the home screen (ghosting: tiles of the home screen are visible)
  • wake up from sleep mode (ghosting: the cover image is visible; darker parts)
  • are there other ways to enter a book? Then these need a double refresh too.
a double refresh is necessary (and would be very welcome, if Kobo added this to a future firmware release) Without it you'll always end up with some ghosting issues as described in this thread and bug thread.

In a book
  • images are ghosting on the next or previous page.
A page refresh that is a little more agressive page would probably fix this.

In one firmware release, Kobo did use the triple write (white/black/white) coming out of sleep mode and I seem to remember complaints about that.
