I'm sorry to hear that, Geoff. We have a cat that's 20 years old now and whose health has been declining for the past year, but especially rapidly in the last couple of months. Each time I wake up, the first thing I do is check to see if he's still with us. He hasn't been eating, only nibbling on anything I offer him. For 19 years, all Christian got was dry cat food. Now I offer him in addition a variety of anything from the small "gourmet" canned foods to tuna fish in order to encourage him. And the weaker he gets, the more dependent upon me he becomes. I used to scold him because when I walked in the house, the dogs were all over me, but he would always go straight to the kitchen and begin demanding to be fed before showing any affection. Now he just wants to stay in my lap all the time. He's lost so much weight that petting him is like petting a skeleton. Poor old guy. They really can get under your skin, despite your best intentions. My heart goes out to you.

Cats manage to find a special place in our hearts. It isn't always obvious, especially with the more aloof among them, but they are there.
I am so sorry for your loss Geoff. I know exactly what you are dealing with Tom. |

That is so very true RP. I married into a cat family, and fell under the feline spell rather quickly. My mom claims not to like pets, yet I'll hear her speaking with them and even see her pet them, when she thinks no one is looking. |

So sorry Geoff! When we lost Spot (19 years old) two years ago, it felt like a hole had been ripped in our hearts. Treasure your memories - I'm sure you will think of Willow every day too. Cats become our special family members!
Tom - it sounds like what we went through with Spot. It's tough - treasure Christian as long as you both are comfortable. |

So sorry for your loss Geoff. She was a very lucky cat being a member of your family.
It's always a very sad time when you lose a much loved family pet. Mag. |

Sorry for your loss, Geoff.
We had a break from having cats for several years because of the pain when they pass. We now have two cats again, thanks to the kids wanting them, and we do enjoy having them around. |

My condolences too, Geoff. I'm sure you will miss your lovely Willow very much.
Sympathies to Tom also. I have been through that too with Possum (my avatar) and it's so hard to know when the right time is to say goodbye to them. I hope you can keep Christian going for a while yet. |
