The Weekly Standard on Google Books

Google and Its Enemies
The much-hyped project to digitize 32 million books sounds like a good idea. Why are so many people taking shots at it?

Yes, a well-reasoned article - at least until the end. The author concludes that Google Book Search poses real dangers today because "Books are not in any important sense user-centric. Whether or not a book has reader matters little." He claims the copyright exists to protect some inherent value of the ideas in books. I'd argue the copyright exists to ensure the financial value of books. Otherwise, why publish beyond the vanity publishing often done to impress friends and family?

The right wing "Weekly Standard" often seems to use the last paragraph of their articles to pushn their agendas.
