HP Starts Shipping iPad-Friendly Printer

http://www.electronista.com/articles...s.ready.to.go/

(Obviously, not "just" for the iPad )

Quote:
After its earlier preview, HP has started shipping the first of its e-mail-capable printers. The e-All-in-One D110a can print documents sent directly to its unique e-mail address, letting iPads and other devices without native printing support or even USB send images to the color inkjet. 802.11n Wi-Fi puts it on the local network without needing any cables beyond power.
I use Canon inkjet printers at home-hope they come up with something similar.

That's rather cunning. So it prints image attachments from an e-mail?

Cool, but I'll consider such a printer only when my current one croaks. I don't need to print from iPad enough to buy one now.

I saw this on Engadget, very cool. I don't need a printer right now, but will for sure look at his in the future. Whatever my next printer I am ready to loose the cable.....

This might be a good printer for hotels and such to buy, for guest use. Some hotels have setups for guests to check in for flights and print their boarding passes. With such a printer, maybe you could check in on your mobile device and print.

Yes, it looks like the printer has its own email address:
http://www.notebooks.com/2010/06/08/...from-anywhere/

Quote:
According to HP this new solution will “… for the first time, allow people to print from any email device to any HP ePrint printer, from anywhere in the world.” Going forward HP will include the technology in all HP models priced over $99. When connected to the Internet, the printer will be able to receive and print documents sent to them from remote locations.

The ePrint enabled printer will be connected directly to the Internet via your router. Each printer will have its own email address. To print a document you will email it to the printer and it will then print it for you.

should be noted, the email goes to HP, gets formatted and sent out to the printer to print. so you have to trust your documents on HP's servers while they get processed. can't imagine this being very popular in offices where security is a concern.

The printer doesn't look as portable as I thought it would. Wonder how heavy it is?
