What Kind Of Accent Do You Have?
Here's a neat quiz, I guess it really only works for Canadians or Americans but could give it a shot anyway. I scored neutral, so I don't really have any accent. I do say Eh though

Says I'm Northern...since I'm originally from the Cleveland area, that would be true!

Northeastern here..
Well, I've been told that before, when people wondered where I came from when I was living as an exchange student in the US |

Neither American nor Canadian, but I gave it a shot anyway.
"Northeastern This could either mean an r-less NYC or Providence accent or one from Jersey which doesn't sound the same. Just because you got this result doesn't mean you don`t pronounce R's.(People in Jersey don`t call their state "Joisey" in real life)" As a matter of fact, I spent almost a whole week end in Providence, I have never been to NJ, at least conscious, though. Does this qualify me as Canadian? Should I go to NJ? I do pronounce R's. Like in Chicken Tetrazzini. Actually when I give up hand language and open my mouth, those unfamiliar with the Milanese accent have taken me for Greek, Turk and even Italian. If I speak French they take me for a Quebec habitant. In Quebec they are pleased that I try: it makes them giggle. Last edited by beppe; 10-31-2011 at 04:29 AM. |

It said Northeastern - right region, wrong country.

I have a Southern accent and I ought to, having been raised in the Peach State.
It says "People used to hate Southern accents but now everyone wants one." |

Neutral, which is as I would have guessed. But I've lived a lot in the south, the west, and the midwest so I was curious. An interesting test. Thanks for posting it. I'd like to have some of my friends try it since I know what they sound like.

Mine's mongrel, having lived in all corners of the US, as well as the northern middle, I've picked up bits and pieces of everywhere. Now I live Hawaii, which is a whole nuther story; got bits of Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Tagalog, Hawaiian, and Pidgin.

Neutral. Just what I would have thought since my family moved around frequently when I was growing up (N. California most often, but also Texas, the mid-west, and Seattle). Frequent relocation as an adult as well with even a broader range, but all in the US.

Which American accent do you have?
My Results: Neutral You`re not Northern, Southern, or Western, you`re just plain -American-. Your national identity is more important than your local identity, because you don`t really have a local identity. You might be from the region in that map, which is defined by this kind of accent, but you could easily not be. Or maybe you just moved around a lot growing up. Hmmm...I am pretty sure I speak Standard American English as the quiz indicates but there is a touch of an accent, I think. I've had people think I'm from Boston or New York but I'm from New Orleans. |
