Hello
Hello... again. I posted this somewhere else but have managed to lose the post in the vastness of the forum.
I have been reading from the Stanza app on the iTouch for quite a while now, and have decided it's time for a bigger screen. Only in the last couple of days have I actually gone looking at various ereaders (none of which were powered on) in the store after looking at specs online. I'm still very undecided as to what I want, but I know I want something that can read the epub format. This afternoon I was in Borders looking at the Kobo and realized I didn't like the flicker when you turned the page (picky aren't I? It's just the iTouch apps are very smooooth with page turning). As the Kobo is the first ereader I've actually been able to handle I'm not sure if this is something that occurs in most/all of the readers? I haven't ruled the Kindle out as I understand it is possible to convert epub format to a format that can be imported by the Kindle via Calibre. Is the Kindle actually available in any store in the US? I don't know of anyone with one, and I'd like to do more than just look at pictures. WiFi would be nice, but not a necessity, and although I wouldn't mind an iPad, hubby thinks that's a little extreme to 'just read books', and I'd prefer better battery life. So? Any advice from the experts? https://www2.mobileread.com/i/smiliesadd1/book.gif Julie |

Welcome to mobileread .... Browse around the Forum, you'll find plenty of thoughts on how we see our individual readers. There is a Forum especially for the question "Which one should I buy" and there is a specification matrix in the Wiki (link top of screen). |

Good to have your company, Julie. You checked out the *Which One Should I Buy?* Thread? Worth spending a little time in there for impartial reviews before making a decision. Best wishes. Neil

Welcome, Julie. I ordered my first ereader, a Kindle, last month. I just got an email from Amazon that I should receive it Sept. 20.

Welcome to MR! I heard that Kindles are going to be sold in Staples in the US...not sure when that's going to happen though --
Hope you find the perfect e-reader for you! Sandy |

Ah so maybe I can check out a Kindle for myself at Staples one of these days.
Last night was a war between online friends. One was pushing for a Kindle, the other for a Nook, which is what each has. |

Welcome to MR, Julie. You do have a big decision to make. At least you know a couple of people that you can ask specific questions about the two devices that you are considering.
As mentioned, check out "Which one should I buy?", the various specific forums for each device (Amazon Kindle /Barnes & Noble nook), check out the other device forums, and check the MR Wiki with The famous eBook Reader Matrix. Here are a few ways to find your posts again: Last edited by dreams; 09-09-2010 at 02:00 AM. |
