Problem with acute accent and tilde in BD

I have an 824-screen novel by D. H. Lawrence ready to go and just happened to spot (as I was getting ready to upload the novel), that two diacritical marks - the acute accent and the tilde - are not translating correctly when compiling into an lrf file. One other note about this is that all foreign phrases are also in italics.

I must stress that the iltalics and the two dicritical marks look FINE and PERFECT before being translated into an lrf file.

Further info: The file is an html file that was copied and pasted into BD, with Book Language [Configurations] set to French.

Any help would be appreciated. I have changed the Configuration setting to Spanish, but the problem is exactly the same.

Thanks,
Don

Sorry: I see this thread should have been posted in Troubleshooting.

Did you have the language set to French before you pasted in the text? I've discovered that it's the language setting at the time you load the file that affects how accents, etc, are handled - it doesn't work if you import the file and then set the language.

A suggestion: Open a second copy of BD, set the language of that 2nd copy to French, and then copy/paste the text from the original BD to the new copy. Make the book in the 2nd copy and see how that comes out.

Yes, it was set to French before I did everything. French is my default.

I'll try your suggestion, as that sounds like the easiest way to see if the change to Spanish (as default language, before a copy-and-paste) will work.

If you see a posting later today of The Plumed Serpent, then you'll know it worked!!

Thanks,
Don

Look forward to hearing whether or not it worked. I've found that BD has a habit of randomly (it seems) setting the language back to "Auto" (in which accents don't work). Fingers crossed, the method I suggested will sort it.

A couple of things to try as well.

1. Set the Language to German if French is not working.
2. Use the Book Cleaner to fix these characters.

I have Book Cleaner set to fix emdashes and -- to emdash and a few other things.

But be careful, sometime BD loses the settings for Book Cleaner.
