How to test custom columns with comics, calibre and MyReadings ?

Hi,

I am really interested about using custom columns too.

I want to implement some comics within calibre using comictagger before to get the correct metadata informations.

To Lynxai : can you give me an example about comics on which you use custom columns ?

I would like to try that.

About the cache issues, it is something that could be prevented using an other way to store informations (maybe in db).

Keep up the great job !

For Calibre, the NAS is only as a drive where you have your books and your calibre library.
My Readings use these files on NAS but it don't need Calibre app.

It´s only a drive with your books or comics and your metadata.db. Calibre´s database points to this drive.

The donwload link here http://sbdomo.esy.es/my-readings-presentation/ is wrong. It points to 0.3 version.

My step by step:

1) Import comics in Comicrack - Select all - Convert to CBZ
2) Use Comictagger to tag the files in "CBL" format
3) Import comics in Calibre (Previously, I´ve already created 2 customs columns: "Story Arc" -series type- and "Format" -Fixed values-. I usually select the imported comics and I change tags -don´t like Comictagger´s tags- and I add Format (Main Series, Crossover, Manga, etc) and Story Arc. I fix the covers, etc.

Comic Example 1:
Series- Buffy Vampire Slayer Season 9
Title- Volume 1/25
Author- Whatever
Published- Whatever
...
...
Tags- Vampires
Format- Finished Series
Story Arc- Buffyverse 45

Series- Buffy Vampire Slayer Season 9
Name- Volume 2/25 (and go on)
Author- Whatever
Published- Whatever
...
...
Tags- Vampires
Format- Finished Series
Story Arc- Buffyverse 45

Etc.

In this case, I know these 25 volumes belongs to Buffyverse (Buffy universe) and I have to read in order 45. There are 44 "things" crossovers, series, whatever I have to read before.

Comic Example 2:

Series- Amazing Spiderman
Title- Volume 530
...
Format- Main Series
Story Arc- Civil War 02

In this case you can read with "Amazing Spiderman" order or "Civil War" order (Fantastic Four 536 would be Civil War 03, etc.)

4) Open MyReadings and enjoy!

I have installed MyReadings version 0.4 (you are right, the link was incorrect on the website).

I will now try to use the custom columns and import some of my comics...

Do you know if ComicVine plans to support multiple languages for the comics titles ?

Thanks
Hugo

I don´t think so. Actually, I use a change renamer software for Comictagger works right, then inside Calibre I change the title to spanish or whatever I want.

How to present correctly comics for StoryArc

Hi,

I followed your step by step.

I dont have comicrack and dont (for the moment) want to install it.
So I will try to find another solutions to convert all my CBR files in CBZ.

I need precisions on this :

I did add a new custom column in Calibre
"storyarc" what do you mean by series type ?
Do you mean it is the same type as the series column ?

my calibre is in french. It doesnt help to understand when examples are in english.

Your example on Civil War is exactly what I try to do :
I created 4 CBZ for the first issues.
I will try to add them and see if Civil War story arc can be seen in MyReadings when properly configured.

I keep you posted...

I use Comicrack because it´s the easiest (and faster) way I´ve found to convert to cbz.
When I say "series type" or "fixed values" I mean the type of the column. And yes, story arc must be the same type as the "series" column. You can check it changing the language of Calibre software and creating a new custom column (hey, I do it in spanish).

Hello,
On my PC with WinRar, I use a batch file (for exemple convert.bat) to convert my cbr to cbz with this code:
Code:
ren *.cbr *.rar
"C:\Program Files\WinRAR\winrar" cv -y *.rar
ren *.zip *.cbz
In winrar's default parameters, you must use zip as default format and you must put the good path for winrar (see : http://en.helpdoc-online.com/winrar_.../helpcmdcv.htm).

If you want delete cbr/rar files you can add:
Code:
@echo Press CTRL-C if you don't wan't your RAR's removed!
pause
del *.rar

creating content that can be read with MyReadings

on Mac, I am now using Hazel to create content that can be read directly with MyReadings.

I have created rules on my library :
CBR or RAR to CBZ conversion.

I still need to find a way to zip any folder that contains multiples JPGs and rename it <name>.cbz

After that I need to integrate into calibre with correct names and metadatas.

please use CBZ format !

No thumbnail cover for a cbz comics ?

Hi,

I have just added a new CBZ comics to MyReadings.
It doesnt create a thumbnail cover ?
Why ?

How to check if all is OK before going further.

I think I will install ComicRack to get the correct metadata before integrating into Calibre.

MyReadings is great !

I have not enough information to know why.
Are the covers of the other books visible?
How appears this book in MyReadings (black cover, other...)?
How is configured the management of covers in My Readings?
Did the tests in admin.php succeed?

To note: the configuration of Xsendfile has still changed in the last update of DSM...

Hello,
Some explanation to do that. The styles are managed by css code.

For the ipad theme, the css are in app.css (flat theme) or wood.css (wood).
For the others, all is in index.html.
You can see what style is use in Chrome by right click on element to change and choose "inspect element". You can test how to change it directly in the console of Chrome.
When you know what to do, you can put your new style in index.html (you wil have to copy and paste that style again in index.html when you will update My Readings).

Some exemples with ipad profil:
For series it's "txtpetititalique" which is use (with ".tablet" which is use for ipad profil):
PHP Code:
.tablet .txtpetititalique {
font-size10px;
font-styleitalic;
overflowhidden;
text-overflowellipsis;

If you want change the size to 12px, you have to add in index.html after "<style type="text/css">" and before "</style>":
PHP Code:
.tablet .txtpetititalique {
font-size12px !important;
font-styleitalic;
overflowhidden;
text-overflowellipsis;

Note that you have to add "!important" to force the overiding of css file. If the style was in index.html (and not in css file as for .iphone or .gtab, you can change directly that style).
Refresh your page in you web browser and the size would be change...

For tags, it's "txtpetit", then the new style would be:
PHP Code:
.tablet .txtpetit {
font-size12px !important;
overflowhidden;
text-overflowellipsis;

I´m going to play with the format, I keep you informed.

Any possibilities to show custom columns inside main page? (Yes, I want the Moon, there's no harm in asking xD)
