Check out Kindle Import. It's a homebrew app that allows you to sideload .mobi books in to the kindle app. You have to install it with your device in developer mode.

It works great. Use Calibre to send books to your TouchPad. Then use Kindle Import to import them in to the Kindle app.

Thank you diatonic! I found this post because I wanted to find out if there was some way to read my other ebooks within the HP TouchPad Kindle app. Your tip above pointed me in the right direction. I am now accessing all my ebooks within the Kindle app!

Hello I have used Calibre to convert PDF mags then transfer them to my HP Touchad successfully. The HP Preware site has an application you can download to the TP called Kindle Import v1.3.2 that looks for new loaded books when transfered through USB to your TP. Open the app click on "Load New Books" and it lists the new books you have transferred. Just check which books you would like to "Import" (sideload), and click the "Import Books" button. They should be listed in your Kindle Beta library when opened. Trouble is it fails to create a cover icon, and uses a generic brown book cover, but titles are listed. Good Luck!
