I just finished Bruno Chief of Police. I expected I would enjoy it, but it far exceeded my expectations. It was a good mystery, but the way that Walker addressed the paradoxes associated with war crimes committed in the distant past was quite brave. The protagonist's ambivalence and ultimate decisions well thought out.

Similar matters have arisen where I live over the years and I've always had difficulty sorting out my own thoughts on the matter. In any case, this is a great little book and I look forward to reading others in the series.

It is a pleasure, and the whole series really works for me. There's a new one out, and I'm waiting until July to buy it, but it's hard to be good.

I bought it from Amazon UK. I do not have any idea as to when it will be sold in the US. It isn't listed at all on Amazon.

And they were excellent, including two or three stories written for the collection. The Mammoth Book series does seem to be a very well edited series of collections.

Next up: Asimov's SF for August 2014 (i.e. the latest issue).

Oh I envy you! Last time I checked it wasn't available at Kobo. An email to the publisher didn't do anything (and I didn't get a reply or an acknowledgment of any sort).

I tried buying it from Kobo a few months ago. When I purchased it showed the right book, but when it downloaded it was the 3rd in the series - A Second Chance. I reported it, they gave me my money back and said they would let me know when the problem was fixed. Still haven't heard anything.

A very well written historical mystery taking place in Regency London. Features a Bow Street runner, secret agents, traitors, clock makers and submarines. The descriptions of the London slums were vivid and real. The history of Robert Fulton's submersible was fascinating and engrossing. An incredible amount of research went into making this book. Many events were based on actual people and events even certain details are accurate according to available historical records. Well done. Excellent read. Rated B [4 stars].

Next will be a sci-fi title of some sort.

Agreed. I have about a dozen of them, and they're all very good.

Quarter of the way through now, and it's just as good as the first.

I bought my copy from Amazon (and it was the correct edition ). Couldn't you do that and then use the magic of Calibre to get it onto your Kobo Mini or Sony reader?

Finished, and it was better than #2, but still not at Weber's best. I've got #4 as an audio book, and I may start reading it there, but I think I'll take a little break from Safehold and try something a bit different.

Next up is Moon Over Soho, by Ben Aaronovitch. This is #2 in the Peter Grant series set in an urban fantasy London. I really enjoyed the first one, so I'm definitely looking forward to this one.

I liked The Ways of the World, but I know many people were upset that the book ends without resolution, so now we are waiting for a sequel. That doesn't bother me, though I was groaning in despair at the time as I really wanted to know how it ended. Guess I will have to wait until it is released, and then hope for a good Kobo coupon!

My next read will be the new Stephen King book, Mr. Mercedes. I hope it's worth the big money. ($17.99 in Canada)

An excellent set of stories. I can't fault this issue, I enjoyed them all.

then I read Heart's Fire by Sarah A Hoyt, one of her short stories that was available as a freebie at Amazon. I had read it before, but it's a charming little fantasy romance.

Next up: Ralph 124C 41+ by Hugo Gernsback.

My oldest unread purchased ebook, from June 2004. And rather an old story indeed - first published in 1911. It turned 100 between my buying it and now!

Just finished up the second book in Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen, Deadhouse Gates. Now moving onto book 3, Memories of Ice.

After this I will probably take a break from the series and read the Tawny Man Trilogy by Robin Hobb.
